What you will need:
- A wooden bat
- Sandpaper
- Mud or wood putty
- Colored pencils or wood colored markers
- Red, blue and black permanent markers
- Fine-point red, blue and black permanent markers
- Clear spray-on wood varnish
- Athletic tape
1.
You're going to need a wooden bat to start with, preferably one with the least amount of stuff on it.
Here's the one I bought for $3 at the thrift store:
(After sanding, it will be significantly lighter in color as seen below)
2.
Most wooden bats have the brand name burnt into them, so you'll have to plug them using wood putty or the mud used for plugging holes in walls.
Once it dries, sand it down and color it with markers or colored pencils.
3.
This step is a little tricky. I used this Harley Quinn lullaby, but you can use any words you want.
Write your words of choice on the bat in cursive with a pencil, making sure to keep them on the half that had the brand name, then trace over them with a black permanent marker.
4.
Using a pencil, draw on the letters 'GOODNIGHT' on the direct opposite side of the lullaby.
Trace over the letters with a fine-point black permanent marker and color it in with a red permanent marker.
5.
Now you're gonna draw on the diamonds. This is one of the hardest parts. Right below the lullaby and above the handle, line one diamond up with the 'GOODNIGHT', then the same on the opposite side, and then in between the first two diamonds. Make sure to use a pencil for this part.
Once you have the diamonds where you want them, fill in the black bands above and below them. Then color the diamonds in with a dark blue permanent marker. For making the corners sharper, use a fine-point permanent marker on the same color.
Then color in the triangles between the diamonds with a red permanent marker. They should be spaced so there is about a centimeter on each side of it before the blue.
Make sure to erase the pencil markings.
6.
Hang the bat up someplace like the very edge of a garage, so things won't blow into it. Using a clear spray varnish, give it a good three or four coats, letting it dry completely between coats.
7.
Wrap athletic tape around the handle, starting right above the base and then wrapping up to the diamonds.
8.
You're done!
Thanks for reading, and I hope you liked it! If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments;)
Also if you made this, leave a picture or two in the comments as well so I can see!
